The History of Box Spring Beds
Box spring beds, also known as continental beds, originated in the United States. In fact, the concept predates the slatted bed base that became widely established in Germany prior to the box spring bed. Traditional slatted frames are always used in combination with a mattress.How Did the Box Spring Bed System Develop?
For hygienic reasons mattresses were no longer intended to rest directly on the floor. As a result a supportive base was developed to elevate and protect the mattress. The bed base not only protects the mattress but also provides a more comfortable bed height for guests. Although box spring beds have gained increasing popularity only in recent years, their history dates back much further. Some of the earliest well-known box spring beds were used in the First-Class cabins of the Titanic to provide passengers with exceptional sleeping comfort.Even today, numerous cruise ships, including Mein Schiff 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6, are equipped with FBF products.
